Valentine's Day Art Activities

Paper Plate Mobile
Use a paper
plate with a paper doily pasted on it. Punch holes around
the
outer edge of the plate. Tie narrow red yarn or ribbon lengths
to these holes.
Glue red and pink heart shapes to the ends of the
ribbon or yarn.

Stuffed Heart
Mobile
Paint various
sizes of hearts in bright colors and designs, each heart having
another in matching size. Staple two hearts together around the
bottom edges
and stuff with bits of torn paper; staple them
closed.
Using yarn, hang them at different levels and in groups.

~Heart Sachets~
Materials
Pink, red, purple felt cut into heart shapes
glue
potpourri
fabric paints
Have the child
put a small amount of potpourri in the middle of each
heart.
Then glue it closed. Once dry, decorate with the fabric paints.

Heart Shaped Potato
Prints
Cut a large potato in half. You will need a heart shaped cookie cutter
that
will fit on the potato half. Press the cookie cutter
into the flat side of the potato.
Then, using a knife, cut the
potato around the outside of the cookie cutter,
leaving a heart shaped potato stamp.
Supply the children with the potato stamps, different colored paints, and paper.
Have the children dip the potatoes in
the paint and press them firmly onto the paper.

Heart
People
Using red,
white and pink construction paper, trace and cut
different sizes of
hearts ranging in size from two to six inches. Glue
the hearts together in different
combinations to form heart
people, using large hearts for the head and body,
smaller ones for arms and
legs, etc.
You can also try making Heart Animals. Draw on eyes, noses, ears and whiskers!!
Chain
of love
Cut strips of red, white and pink construction paper, three to
four inches long,
and one-half to one inch wide. Form a circle with
one strip, gluing or stapling the
ends together. Take the next strip and
loop it through the first circle, again gluing
or stapling the ends
together.
Continue on and make a chain as long as you wish.
Use to decorate walls, windows and doorways.

Heart Picture Frame
Make simple frames - heart shaped - from cardboard and red or
pink construction paper.
Use the cardboard shape for the back.
Use the construction paper for front.
Cut out shape so picture can be
put between both. Glue edges when all together.
Glue a magnet to the back for hanging on the refrigerator.

Valentine Placemat
Gather up Valentines
cards from past years. Glue onto light cardboard or
construction paper in decorative fashion the size of a
placemat.
Laminate the collage to seal the placemat.
Let the children date and sign it.
These make great gifts
for grandparents.
