Rules for a Happy Classroom
My classroom discipline plan helps every student receive guidance in making good
decisions about his/her behavior.  In doing this, the children are given the opportunity
to learn in a positive classroom environment.  In the beginning years, it is
so important for each child to develop self-discipline and good work habits,
resolve conflicts peacefully and think independently.
I believe that working together, we can make a difference in this process.
The plan below outlines our classroom rules, positive rewards and consequences for
appropriate and inappropriate behavior.

Our Classroom Rules

1. Follow directions.
2. Keep hands, feet, and negative comments to yourself.
 3. Be kind to other children and adults in the classroom.  Show respect.

4. Take care of class materials and clean up things when you are finished with them.

5. Always walk in the hallways and classroom.
6. Raise your hand when you need to share something with the class.
 7. Use quiet voices in the classroom, save loud voices for outside.

Hagood Elementary is an Exemplar PBIS School – Promoting and focusing on a positive school climate.
This award is earned by PBIS schools who exhibit excellence in their program.

Positive Behavior Intervention Supports is a process for creating a safer and more effective school.
PBIS is a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing
research based, school wide, and classroom discipline systems. The full implementation of this program is a
three to five year process.  Hagood is currently in year three.  The process focuses on improving a school’s
ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students.  Rather than a prescribed program, PBIS provides systems for schools to design, implement, and evaluate effective school-wide, classroom, non-classroom, and student specific discipline plans. PBIS includes school-wide procedures and processes intended for:

   • All students, all staff, and in all settings
   • Non-classroom settings within the school environment;
   • Individual classrooms and teachers, and individual student supports for the estimated 3-7 percent
of students who present the most challenging behaviors.

PBIS is not a program or a curriculum; it is a team-based process for systemic problem solving, planning, and evaluation.  It is an approach to creating an environment within which school-based teams of educators are
provided training in: systems change, effective management principles and practices and applications of
research-validated instruction and management practices
