During the weeks of October 6 and 13, we have been learning all about pumpkins!
We have read pumpkin books, sequenced the life cycle, weighed and measured our class pumpkin and sang songs.
We are visiting Denver Downs Farm on Wednesday, October 15. We will navigate through a corn maze,
go on a hayride and cow train and pick a pumpkin.

The children's favorite book has been Pumpkin Town which has
brightly colored, playful, graphic illustrations.
The story is about a family with five sons who live on a pumpkin farm on a hill above a village. After one harvest,
the sons take some pumpkin seeds and toss them in the air. The seeds are accidently carried by the wind to the village
below them, where they land in the roofs of the houses, in gardens, and in flower pots. During the following
harvest time the seeds began to grow, and pumpkins begin growing all over the village. The town's people
don't know what to do because of so many pumpkins. One night the boys decide to help the village by cleaning up
the pumpkins. They load up several trucks with the pumpkins and sell them. The villagers take the money they make
and build a statue of the brothers to thank them for their work. They also give them five large watermelons, which
take the boys a whole week to eat. After they eat the watermelons, they take the seeds and toss them into the air,
just as they did with the pumpkin seeds. The book ends as the seeds are landing on the rooftops, flower pots, and
 gardens of the town's people.

After reading the book, we made pumpkin houses and made a village on our bulletin board.
The children think it is so funny that I actually live in Pumpkintown :-)

Here are some pictures of our fun activities we've done in class.
