Creating A Web Site for Your Classroom

Many friends, teachers and others have asked me:
How did you build your web pages? How do I do this or that?  Is it hard to do?

Here's how it all began...
In 1998, I took a five-week Front Page course through our school district for my GBE evaluation.
My husband also bought me a book called Front Page Simplified. I also searched the internet for graphics,
ideas and tutorials. Basically, I wanted a site that would enable my student's parents to be
informed of activities going on in our classroom.
So, I began the task of creating my web site...Mrs. LaBoon's Kindergarten Class

My suggestions:
1. Begin small. Put your classroom's basic information-school calendar, daily schedule, homework, etc.
2. There are many wonderful web sites for school related graphics.
My very favorite graphics are from Graphic Garden. The artist is Helena (who is from Norway)
She has become a wonderful friend to me over the past few years.
3. If you purchase graphics, I strongly suggest that you use codes that
protect others from downloading your graphics. You may obtain the
"No Right Click", "Disable IE Toolbar" and "No Drag" scripts at Dynamic Drive.
4. Always give credit to the graphic artists for their work by providing a logo with a link to their website.
5.  If you want to use music in the background, go to midi sites, right click
and "save target as" and put it in a folder called C/My Documents/Midi Music.
6.  Always save your work on floppy or CD. My computer has crashed twice in
the past five years and I lost everything....Since then I have learned to save everything.

When I decided to get my own domain, I decided to use Go Daddy.Com for my hosting provider.
Many thanks to Jessica Meacham for her advice and help!

I hope these tips have helped you and I will try to add more later.
In the meantime, check out some of these links for ideas on creating your web site.

I truly enjoy working on my web site! I have received many emails from teachers, parents and educators
who have been inspired by their visits.
It make all my hard work worthwhile when I know someone has been blessed by my "little corner of the web".
