ADEPT Training
Pickens County School District

ADEPT is a statewide system of integrated performance-based
standards, guidelines,
and strategies designed to promote excellence in the teaching
profession.
Specifically, the ADEPT
system
-
establishes state
standards (Performance Dimensions) that redefine and upgrade the
expectations for
what all South Carolina teachers should know and be able to do
as competent and effective professionals;
-
provides teacher
education programs with a framework for collaborating with
school districts to design
and implement innovative models for assisting and evaluating
student teachers;
-
provides school
districts with a framework for developing induction programs to
assist novice teachers
during their first (induction contract) year of teaching;
-
provides school
districts with a framework for selecting and/or developing
valid, reliable evaluation models,
based on state standards and
guidelines, to formally evaluate teachers at the provisional,
annual,
and continuing contract levels;
-
includes an
optional assessment process (i.e., TEAM) that school districts
may elect to use to conduct
formal evaluations of provisional, annual, and continuing
contract teachers,
-
provides school
districts with a framework for promoting the continuous
professional growth of
continuing contract teachers through Goals-Based Evaluation (GBE)
programs.

I took ADEPT training for Pickens County
School District for an elective class.
This course required meetings on June 9, June 13 - 16, and June 20,
2005,
All successful participants became certified ADEPT Evaluators and
Mentors.
Sybil Humphries and Michael Fleming were the instructors who taught
an in depth study of the performance
standards and procedures of the ADEPT Team Model.

I enjoyed taking this course because it helped me to evaluate my
own teaching styles and methods.
Mrs. Humphries and Mr. Fleming were wonderful instructors in this
course.
Their dedication, enthusiasm and knowledge of the ADEPT model made
the course very rewarding.
I also enjoyed observing the first grade teacher who did an
excellent job during the school year.
